Laminates & moulded parts

Thin and surface-coated GRP components as laminates or moulded parts compliant with EN 45545 - really a challenge? Design freedom combined with high strength and low weight are welcome characteristics in the construction of panelling systems for rail vehicles. While the substrates and resins to fulfil the fire protection requirements are available in a wide range, the same expertise would be desired from the coating systems. Moulded parts do not necessarily require tools. However, the tolerances and surface qualities required by vehicle manufacturers make moulds mandatory. If the quantities do not justify an investment in SMC or RTM process-capable moulds, the hand laminate is a real alternative to offer a competitive price. The COMP - i - LAM G 308 from M&D Composites is suitable for hand laminate processes and is tested and approved with HL2 for the R1/R7/R17 requirement sets.
